Hand Towels- Decorating The Guest Bathroom!

It does not matter how immaculately decorated the house, how completely equipped with all the necessities. Even if everything, from the curtains, to the hand towels are of the very best quality, if one forgets to furnish the guest bathroom, everything else falls out of place. That is why decorating the guest bathroom is one of the most important features of home dcor.

One of the first things a guest to a home uses when in the bathroom is the guest hand towel. If one is missing altogether, the impression it makes can be disastrous. But even if present, it is necessary to make sure that it suits the environment and is of good quality. It is mandatory that the guest hand towel should match or aesthetically contrast the bathroom dcor including the fittings and tiles.

The market for guest hand towels is wide and popular. One can find guest hand towels in almost every design and print imaginable. It is important however, to make sure that the hand towel is of excellent quality as poor quality often shows after the first few uses. If the theme of the house is colourful and the same has been followed in the bathrooms, cheerful holiday prints or bright colours with bold prints are a good idea. If, however, it is a more classically decorated and elegantly furnished house, simple and dark colours will set well in the bathroom.

Placement of a guest hand towel is another important factor while designing the guest bathroom. Although bathrooms are by default designed to include a hand towel ring or a towel rack within easy reach of the wash area, one can improvise while decorating the same. Rolling the towels, tying with a loose ribbon or string, and keeping them in baskets near the wash basin give it an unused and clean and new feel. It gives the notion that that particular hand towel is brand new and kept specifically for the guest in question. It is not necessary to always hang the hand towel from the towel ring as expected.

To accentuate the design and colour of the hand towels one can purchase it as a set of bath towel and wash cloth, and place the latter neatly folded in the towel rack. This makes the guest hand towels fit in better with the bathroom.

Hand towels for guest, particularly the ones in the guest bathrooms, are essential in making the right impression on the guest.

Tips in Decorating Small Spaces with Modern Furniture

Not everyone has a big home or large apartment. In the current economic crunch, it’s crucial to tighten our belts and downsize. Some even prefer to bunk or share the rent together. But if you prefer a smaller, more personal space than sharing a large one with a stranger, the first thing to consider is the furniture. Small spaces can be difficult to decorate because, well, they’re limiting. Fortunately, there are several ways for you to incorporate modern furniture in an undersized room and still maintain traffic.

Create a floor plan

The first step is to map out a floor plan for your space. Before buying modern furniture, you must determine where to place each furnishing. Since your decorating a small space, try not to arrange the furniture pieces helter-skelter. You should include several considerations, including, most importantly, the traffic. People should still be able to move in the area even after placing furniture pieces in it.

The best way to know what types of modern furniture pieces you need is to do some prior research. There are several interior design techniques that can effectively make your room larger.

Remove unnecessary objects and de-clutter

Before you even buy furniture and to allow you to create an effective floor plan, remove things that aren’t necessary in the room and de-clutter. Objects that take up space and little knickknacks, trinkets and tchotchke should be placed in cabinets, if possible. One of the best ways to do this is to install a hidden storage in the wall or place wall-mounted shelves. But before you do, be sure to ask your landlord first.

Consider monochromatic pieces

Colorful pieces can easily create a room smaller. To avoid this, choose several furnishings available in a variety of shades from a single color. Monochromatic scheme is tremendously effective in making the room larger. From the texture to the finish of the furniture, make sure you choose colors within the same family. Coordinate the colors and try not to deviate.

Mix small and big pieces

Even though small spaces are limiting, that doesn’t mean you have to stick to smaller pieces. You can still place a few large pieces and mix them with small ones. One suggestion when choosing larger pieces is to opt for multi-purpose furnishings. Nowadays, it’s extremely easy to find modern furniture pieces that can serve multiple purposes. For instance, drawers and credenzas are great as television stand or storage areas. These are large pieces that will look extremely well in any small space.

Insights Into Interior Design Designing In Style. Part Ii Traditional – Jacobean And Victorian

Interior design has always been impacted by fashion trends – both historically and in the modern day. In this article series, “Designing in Style,” I explore the meaning of style for interior designers.
I draw on my experience working alongside many of London’s best-known interior design teams. This second article in my series introduces traditional/period design, with a focus on the Jacobean and Victorian styles.

Traditional design uses materials that reflect the wealth and opulence of historic times. London Interior Designers will often take the best of the features that were available back then and skilfully combine them with elements that are available today. Traditional/period interior design projects tend to focus on elegance, with a look and feel that is comfortable, rich and sumptuous, although sometimes also a little fragile.

The Jacobean theme is popular in London mansions and other residences that have a real sense of history. The Jacobean style focuses on heavy wooden features, with dark-stained oak often used to create panels for walls and floorboards. Oak is also often used for the furniture, and the overall interior design feel is that of robustness, with pleasantly-proportioned pieces to fill the available space. Tapestries are also an important part of the Jacobean look. However, many interior designers recognise that tapestries can be impractical nowadays, and one approach often used by London’s best-known consultancies is to recreate the tapestry appearance on modern upholstered furniture or curtains.

One caveat with Jacobean interior designs is that the style does need plenty of natural light, because otherwise the darker wood stains can seem uninspired. This can be problematic in smaller London residences, but is generally not an issue with more luxurious mansions that often feature huge south-facing windows and substantial grounds.

The Victorian interior design style, by contrast, is considered a more staid approach. Interior designers often focus on small rounded tables, often covered entirely in cloth, and fat, heavily-buttoned chesterfield settees. So much of London became urbanised in Victorian times that the style also came to include nature as a theme for textiles, serving as a counterpoint to accelerating industrialisation. Consequently, Victorian interior design schemes often feature floral elements and birds on both walls and furnishings.

In the next article in my “Designing in Style” interior design series, I will focus on a third and final period style that is particularly important for London residences – the Georgian style.

If you are an office worker, chances are your workspace consists of a cubicle with cubicle furniture. Cubicle furniture not only looks good, but is efficient as well, especially with the addition of trays, shelves, file organizers and other accessories.

Working in a cubicle for 40 hours a week or so, you are probably equally concerned with making your space comfortable. Being able to personalize it according to your tastes and needs is important to you. But before you start, here are some things to keep in mind when decorating office cubicles.

Make sure that your decorations are in keeping with the culture in your office. Do you work in a conservative environment such as a law office, or do you work in advertising, where offices are more open and creative in nature? Also, if you use your cubicle for receiving guests and clients, it is best to decorate conservatively to project a more professional image.

Our cubicle can still be a reflection of your personality, even with conservative decorations. Things that are important to you, as well as your hobbies and interests can be seen in the items you choose to display. These include family pictures, themed decor and plants.

You can also choose decorations for their ability to inspire and motivate. These include posters with appropriate messages and prints. Clocks, calendars and bulletin boards placed on your desk or hung on your cubicle wall also serve this purpose.

You can make people visiting your cubicle more welcome with your decorations. You can display unique, humorous and thought-provoking items to serve as icebreakers. Unconventional desktop accessories, unusual travel souvenirs or something as simple as a jar of candy can jumpstart conversations and make transition to business matters go more smoothly.

There are many colorful, fun and attractive items available in the market that can be used as cubicle decorations. However, you should only get the ones that wont distract you from your work. Desk toys and gadgets in particular can have a negative impact on your productivity if these make you spend more time tinkering with them than doing your job.

Multi-cultural and multi-racial work environments are common nowadays. With this in mind, you should take care that your decorations do not offend your co-workers and other people. Do not use items that might be interpreted as profane or disrespectful of others religious beliefs, gender, political views and race.
